Earth Source Foods Tofu steaks are great as a simple meal served with your favourite accompaniments.
INGREDIENTS:
1 Pack of Earth Source Foods Pressed Tofu or Firm Tofu
or 1 tub Soft Tofu
If using Pressed Tofu: take a piece, lay flat and slice into 2 or 3 pieces
If using Firm Tofu: stand on end and slice into 4 pieces
If using Soft Tofu: stand on end and slice into 2 pieces
METHOD 1:
Heat a frying pan and add some oil.
Place in tofu pieces and cook until browned.
The firm and pressed tofu will form a crunchy skin - turn and repeat.
The soft tofu with form a thickened skin - turn and repeat.
For extra flavour and browning, pour over some tamari sauce before turning.
METHOD 2:
Place pieces on a greased tray.
Bake at 200°c. The firm and pressed tofu will form a crunchy skin. The soft tofu with form a thickened skin on the bottom
SERVING SUGGESTION:
Serve with fried rice, vegetables, or side salad as a complete main meal. Add chilli sauce or a freshly made tomato sauce (see separate recipe below).
QUICK TOMATO SAUCE
INGREDIENTS:
4 large tomatoes or a 400gms tin of biodynamic / organic tomato pieces
I Medium onion chopped finely
1 Small chilli (to taste) chopped finely
2 Cloves of garlic chopped finely
1 Teaspoon sugar
Salt & pepper to taste
Olive oil for frying
METHOD:
If tinned tomatoes, open can and set aside.
If fresh tomatoes – place in boiling water for 30 secs then remove skin and chop into chunks.
Fry garlic and chillies in a little olive oil and saute lightly. Add onions and cook until lightly browned. Add tomatoes and mash in pan. Add sugar and seasoning and simmer for 10 mins until thickened. Serve as an accompaniment to steaks.
